Acer’s Visionary Approach to Addressing Climate Change

MANILA, Philippines—Acer Inc. revealed its groundbreaking “Conscious Technology” vision at a press conference in Dubai, emphasizing its commitment to designing and producing technology with a forward-looking perspective. Alongside this, Acer shared its strides in climate action, featuring two innovative energy storage solutions and a climate exhibition that introduced cutting-edge technology and product concepts to the public.

In a bold move, Acer has joined the RE100 initiative, pledging to achieve 100% renewable electricity sourcing by 2035 and committing to net-zero emissions by 2050. As a leading ICT company, Acer aims to positively impact the environment through collective efforts. Notably, 60% of its critical suppliers have committed to RE100 or established science-based carbon reduction targets. Acer also aspires to incorporate 20-30% post-consumer recycled plastic in its computers and monitors by 2025, achieving a commendable 17% usage in 2022.

At the heart of Acer’s sustainability initiatives is its Vero product line, featuring a substantial use of recycled materials. The Project Humanity initiative unites Acer employees worldwide in green actions, while the Earthion platform engages supply chain partners to address environmental challenges collaboratively. Acer’s commitment extends to reducing sea logistics emissions, incorporating biofuels, and exploring sustainable packaging materials through the Earthion program.

Acer’s Chairman and CEO, Jason Chen, emphasized the urgency of adopting renewable energy to combat climate change. The company reached 44% renewable electricity usage in 2022 and aims for 100%, with a focus on leveraging solar and wind power in energy storage technology.

As part of its net-zero commitment, Acer is expanding into the energy storage sector, offering solutions across various applications. With investments in battery cell technologies, Acer introduced new energy storage solutions, showcasing its dedication to contributing to the global energy transition.

The exhibition, titled “Conscious Technology for a Brighter Tomorrow,” held at Alserkal Avenue in Dubai, encapsulates Acer’s ongoing climate efforts. It presents a range of products and services aligned with four lifestyle concepts, reflecting Acer’s dedication to conscious technology and a sustainable future.

Lifestyle Concepts

  1. Concept for Working: Acer introduces an on-demand subscription service, allowing users to access its extensive product portfolio. With subscription upgrades, services, and repairs available at the click of a button, customers actively contribute to extending the lifespan of digital devices, reducing the demand for new resources.
  2. Concept for Learning: Acer’s commitment to sustainability extends to education. This concept offers schools computer hardware and software designed to minimize their carbon footprint. Students learn in a climate-positive environment using refurbished laptops, accompanied by tools that encourage conscious use.
  3. Concept for Moving: Acer envisions a network of mobility stations featuring charging hubs, nimble e-bikes, and e-scooters. This initiative aims to simplify journeys, with additional support through data-informed urban planning and predictive micro-mobility infrastructure. This approach enhances transportation access for more people and supports smart city infrastructure planning.
  4. Concept for Living: Acer introduces a hyper-compatible system with a mobile app that harmonizes existing and new smart appliances to enhance homes’ climate resilience. The app empowers users to manage energy consumption efficiently and gain visibility into the energy distribution of their appliances.

The exhibition is open to the public from December 7-12, 10 a.m. – 7 p.m., at Alserkal Avenue, Dubai’s arts center. Visitors have the opportunity to explore Acer’s environmental commitments, innovative solutions, and groundbreaking concepts for sustainable living.
