MANILA, Philippines—Following its international acclaim Off-Broadway, creatives-led Barefoot Theatre Collaborative goes deep and intimate in the upcoming staging of “The Last Five Years”, opening this September.
Written and composed by Jason Robert Brown, “The Last Five Years” is an emotionally-charged musical that takes audiences on an intimate and deeply personal journey, charting love as it “runs its course”.
Told in two intersecting timelines, this musical explores the profound emotions experienced by aspiring actress Cathy played by Gab Pangilinan and talented writer Jamie by Myke Salomon, as the two brings us on a deep-dive on their five-year relationship.

The production writes, “With every note and lyric, this captivating production immerses us in the intense emotions of love, loss, and the raw complexities of human connection, leaving audiences breathless and moved to their core.”
Launched in 2022, Barefoot staked its claim as a young and innovative theater company that boldly creates, produces, and mounts relevant stories for the stage, starting with its initial staging of hit musical “Mula sa Buwan” followed by a global online release last March 2023. With its continuing aim to stage diverse stories, Barefoot launched the first Pride Plays in June 2023 to begin its second season.
This time, Barefoot embarks on its first international musical stage adaptation. “The Last Five Years” opens at the Power Mac Spotlight Blackbox Theater, Circuit Makati with award-winning film, television, and stage actor Topper Fabregas at the helm, and musical direction by Rony Fortich. Joey Mendoza takes on the production design, Meliton Roxas Jr. on lighting design, with choreography by Delphine Buencamino.
