Aquaman Sequel’s Surprising Twist: It’s Funnier, Says Momoa and Wan

Screening Room

GLOBAL RELEASE—Director James Wan had always envisioned more comedy in the “Aquaman” sequel, aiming for an outright buddy comedy after the first film’s action-adventure romantic comedy vibe, drawing inspiration from films like “Tango & Cash” and “Men in Black.”

In “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom,” the formidable Black Manta seeks revenge with the mythical Black Trident, compelling Aquaman to forge an unlikely alliance with his imprisoned brother Orm to save their kingdom from irreversible destruction.

Star Jason Momoa embraced the comedic shift, even earning a writing credit for his contribution to the sequel’s development. With an ensemble cast including Amber Heard, Nicole Kidman, Dolph Lundren, and Randall Park, “Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom” hits cinemas exclusively on December 20.
