MANILA, Philippines—In a dedicated effort to enhance inclusivity and accessibility in the realm of e-commerce, Shopee, the country’s leading online shopping platform, has forged a strategic partnership with the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI) to facilitate the onboarding of Halal food sellers onto its expansive platform.

This collaborative initiative is designed to bolster Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs) and facilitate the online availability of Halal products for both sellers and consumers. Furthermore, it aligns seamlessly with Shopee’s overarching objective of empowering niche businesses to expand their digital footprint and reach a broader market.

The focal point of this collaboration is the education of potential sellers on Shopee’s onboarding procedures, ensuring a smooth and efficient entry into the e-commerce platform. The comprehensive onboarding sessions cover crucial aspects such as product listing guidelines, user interface navigation, and essential business insights, equipping sellers with the necessary tools to flourish in the digital marketplace.

Halal food products, adhering to Islamic dietary laws with specific production processes, are of paramount importance for individuals with religious obligations and those who prioritize ethically sourced food. Ensuring convenient access to these products is a key element of this initiative.

Vincent Lee, Head of Shopee Philippines, expressed Shopee’s commitment to fostering inclusivity, stating, “At Shopee, we are dedicated to fostering inclusivity for our sellers and consumers. Our collaboration with the DTI to onboard Halal food sellers aligns with our commitment to supporting MSMEs and providing diverse options for our users. This is another step towards empowering businesses of all kinds and sizes to thrive in the digital economy.”

Director Marievic M. Bonoan of DTI emphasized the significance of this collaboration in enhancing the visibility of Halal products online, stating, “The partnership with Shopee is a step towards enhancing the visibility of Halal products online. This collaboration will further strengthen the DTI’s commitment to promoting economic growth and ensuring that MSMEs offering Halal-certified products have the tools and resources to adapt to a dynamic market.”
