SB19’s Vibrant Colors Shine Bright in Premium WHAT? Collection Collab with Designer Chynna Mamawal

Fashion & Style

MANILA, PhilippinesSB19 roused the excitement of the A’TIN fandom as soon as it announced the limited edition premium collection for newest single WHAT? with young designer Chynna Mawawal. This follows the general collection released earlier this month which sold out in under two minutes due to the P-Pop royalties’ immense popularity.

The special premium collection collaborated on by the band and Mawawal was originally set to drop on wearcasa.ph in very limited quantities on April 22, midnight. However, due to incredibly high traffic on the site anticipating its release, the Wear CASA website crashed and resulted to the postponement of the highly-anticipated drop.

CASA promised that it’s working to improve the site in order to accommodate all the A’TINs orders, and will make the collection available on April 24, 10PM instead.

The excitement and hype surrounding the collection is perfectly represented in this change of schedule, with the unanticipated clamor for the limited stocks. Chynna Mawawal’s reputation as a renowned designer, on top of SB19’s unparalleled popularity, has amounted to a fashion line everyone wants to get a hold of.

Moreover, a portion of the earnings will be allocated to help produce Personal Protective Equipment for our medical frontliners.

The Collection

The entire collection showcases 30 looks for both men and women, and split into 3 themes for the SB19 Premium Collection: WHAT?!, Streetwear, SB19 Woman and SB19 Guys.

The SB19 Premium WHAT?! collection is inspired by the single released in March, representing the colors of Philippine flag. The SB19 Premium Streetwear collection consists of unisex wearable sweats and coords, with colors and silhouettes hand-picked by SB19, and masterfully crafted by Chynna Mamawal and her team of artisans and craftsmen. All these items are limited to 100 pieces each look, and will never be reproduced again.

Hence, the clamor to be on the website at the exact moment of release and to not miss out.

Giving spotlight to the SB19 Women, Chynna has produced 14 silhouettes which are very feminine, sophisticated, and yet still very edgy. Part of the collection are structured pieces such as trench coats, crop & pants coord;  athleisure pieces from jacket coords, tennis skirt set and sporty dress; and as highlight of the womenswear collection, a 150-piece limited edition tulle WHAT?! dresses in black, nude and blush.

To top up the collection are 2 more sporty shirts and shorts coord in plain and mesh, in black and white for the sporty, always on-the-go SB19 guys.

The Creation

It’s definitely not an easy feat to design and create a collection in collaboration with other artists at this time of so many restrictions. But SB19 and Chynna Mamawal pulled it off beautifully.

Mamawal actually shared at the launch presscon that this collection was a new challenge for her, as designing streetwear has always been out of her comfort zone. In tackling this assignment, she fully immersed herself in SB19’s world, and committed the time to study and understand their branding, personality, and music. She even admitted to listening to their tracks until 4 in the morning! Something we all are guilty of when it comes to the boys’ powerful music.

“The design process started with a meeting between me and the SB19 team, knowing their favorite colors and the silhouettes they feel like would best represent their own personalities,” shared Chynna Mamawal. “Some pieces are in limited edition, primarily because of the shortage in fabric supplies during the global pandemic. So these pieces will eventually become collectibles, especially as SB19 is ready to take the global spotlight.”

She also revealed that SB19 sent her a personally-designed presentation detailing their pegs for the collection, which the group credited to Justin, who was also the Creative Director for the WHAT? music video.

Despite the hurdles and challenges, both collaborators agreed that it was a natural, and very organic process to work on the whole project. Both also shared their satisfaction with all the designs.

The SB19 boys also expressed their appreciation and gratitude towards their new friend as they commended Mamawal’s dedication to make the collection as personalized to them as possible, while still considering the fans, the quality, and the overall message of the designs.

The Premium Box

Every order of the limited edition items comes with a black customized box, numbered label and printed postcards with exclusive collection photos and messages signed by SB19 and Chynna Mamawal.

The WHAT? Message

All in all, SB19 shared that they want to send out a love letter full of individuality, confidence, and self-expression through the WHAT? single and fashion collection. Since the track itself is all about expressing your true self, they believe it’s a great way to mix fashion into the mix to allow themselves and A’TINs to really showcase their personality.

As for future single-specific merchandise, the boys only teased us with “let’s see and coy smiles.
