CCP Premieres Completed Digital Projects from Grant Program at Cinemalaya 19

MANILA, Philippines—The Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP) is set to unveil a range of completed digital projects through its Comics, Animation, and Game Development Grant Program. The launch event is scheduled for August 12, 2023, at 3 pm in Cinema Palma, located on the 2nd floor of the Philippine International Convention Center (PICC).

These innovative and creative digital ventures encompass comics, games, and animated media, all of which spotlight Filipino history, culture, social concerns, and the environment.

The game development initiatives feature exciting works such as Ranida Games’ “Sinag,” a 1v1 fighting game steeped in Philippine mythology; Synthillate’s “Pearls of Asia,” a business simulator incorporating strategies from esteemed Filipino figures; and Kendikorp’s “Gala,” a mobile exploration game that celebrates iconic Filipino landmarks.

Among the comic projects are Randy Valiente’s “Lalang Kalibutan,” a Visayan perspective on the world’s creation, and Ruel Enoya’s “Bantugen,” an adaptation from the Maranao epic “Darangen.”

The launch will also present additional digital endeavors, including Bernardo Carpio, a digital Filipino comic enhanced with augmented reality; “Bulusan and Agingay: Iyak ni Mampak,” a stop-motion animation film; “Sulayman,” a 2D digital animation; and “Lola Basyang, The Animation.”

The CCP Grants initiative aspires to generate original Intellectual Property (IP) content reflecting the nation’s cultural heritage, encompassing folktales, myths, and legends. This program aims to invigorate the local creative economy by providing financial, technical, and educational support to local creative businesses, content developers, artists, and students.

The upcoming batch of grantees in the animation, comics, and game development sectors is anticipated to release their projects in the early months of the following year. Notable animation projects include Friendly Foes’ “Makopa,” Komiket Inc.’s “Tungkung Langit at Laon Sina,” Fizzbuzz, Inc.’s “Tiki,” and Lea Zoraina Sindao Lim’s “Datu Pat i Mata.”

In the realm of digital comics, grantees will present works like Ethel Mae Reyes’ “Tulogmatian,” Julius Sempio’s “Teduray,” Alfred Ismael Galaroza’s “Sinogo,” Marco Sumayao’s “Legend of Sleeping Beauty Mountain,” and Anabelle Marie D. Laureola’s “Sun says Moon says.”

Game development will also shine through projects such as Metamedia Information Systems Corp.’s “Treasure Seekers,” Katakata Creative’s “Kata,” and Makiling Interactive Arts’ “San Fernando.”
