MANILA, Philippines—Celebrating its first decade, The Sandbox Collective partners with Star Magic, the talent management arm of ABS-CBN, to kick off its 2024 season. With three decades of nurturing artists into stars, this collaboration promises to invigorate Manila’s theater scene, attracting a new generation of theatergoers.
Toff De Venecia, Managing Artistic Director of The Sandbox Collective, expresses his enthusiasm for the partnership. He announces the production of The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee, promising an exciting collaboration that will bring Broadway magic to Manila.

In February, the pandemonium begins with “The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee,” an interactive musical about six mid-pubescents competing for a spelling championship. Directed by renowned actress and educator Missy Maramara, the production promises a fast-paced, funny, and touching experience.

The musical boasts a talented cast from diverse backgrounds, including Star Magic talents making their theatrical debuts, young theater professionals, and seasoned veterans. Maramara emphasizes the importance of powerful singers who can navigate the themes with openness, courage, and passion.
Star Magic talents AC Bonifacio and Shanaia Gomez make their professional theatrical debuts as Marcy Park, while Diego Aranda and Luis Marcelo alternate for the role of Chip Tolentino. Krystal Brimner and Angela Ken alternate for the role of Olive Ostrovsky, bringing their diverse talents to the stage.

Elian Dominguez and Shaun Ocrisma alternate as Leaf Coneybear, while Becca Coates and Justine Narciso alternate as Loggaine SchwartzAndGrubennierre. Joshy Ramirez and Ron Balgos take on the role of William Barfee, showcasing their versatility as theater actors.

The cast is completed by theater veterans Liesl Batucan-Del Rosario and Audie Gemora, who bring their wealth of experience to their respective roles. Robbie Guevara and Nyoy Volante also join the ensemble, adding their unique talents to the production.
