MANILA, Philippines—When selecting the actor to portray his father Bob Marley in the film “Bob Marley: One Love,” Ziggy Marley expressed full confidence in Kingsley Ben-Adir, emphasizing his spirit, energy, ability, respect, and commitment.
Ben-Adir, dedicated to honoring Marley’s legacy, immersed himself in the role by learning guitar, mastering Marley’s movements and speech patterns, and working closely with Jamaican coach Fae E. Ellington to perfect Marley’s patois. Choreographer Polly Bennett and guitar instructor Ben Martinez also contributed to Ben-Adir’s transformation into Marley, ensuring authenticity in every aspect.
