Korean Cinema’s Finest ‘Exhuma’ Soars to Box Office Glory

MANILA, Philippines—The enigmatic occult thriller “Exhuma,” featuring Choi Min-Shik, Kim Go-Eun, Yoo Hae-Jin, and Lee Do-Hyun, made a powerful debut, claiming the top spot at the Korean box office during its entire opening weekend and setting a new record for the biggest opening of 2024 in Korea thus far.

Before its theatrical release on February 22, “Exhuma” already made waves, achieving a record-breaking pre-sale rate with a 54% real-time reservation rate and 369.99 million advance bookings, despite stiff competition.

The star-studded mystery also surpassed 2 million viewers within four days of its release, as reported by the Korean Film Council, reaching a total of 2,299,706 moviegoers by February 26. Directed by Jang Jae-Hyun (“Svaha: The Sixth Finger,” “The Priests”), “Exhuma” follows the journey of two skilled shamans, a geomancer, and a mortician, as they embark on a quest to uncover a mysterious grave, inadvertently unleashing a malevolent force buried within.
