Filipino Film on Catfishing Set to Join Two International Film Festivals

Screening Room

MANILA, Philippines—Following its triumph at the Slamdance Film Festival earlier this year, highly acclaimed director Quark Henares’ latest film, “Marupok AF (Where Is The Lie?),” is all set to take the stage at two more illustrious film festivals, the Udine Far East Film Festival and the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival.

Produced by ANIMA Studios, “Where is the Lie?” is a film that will leave audiences talking for weeks banking heavily on its witty writing, sharp performances, and dark comedic tone.

Janzen Torres, played by EJ Jallorina, is a lovelorn woman who believes she has found her perfect match in the charming and handsome Theo, who is played by Royce Cabrera. However, things take a dramatic turn when Theo ghosts her on the day of their meet-up, leaving Janzen to unravel the complex web of lies, deceit, and catfishing that has been spun around her. Filipino singer-actress Maris Racal also stars in the movie as Beanie, the sociopath whose character was inspired by the mastermind behind a real viral story that became a national obsession in the Philippines in 2020.
