Nespresso Takes Today’s Coffee Drinkers to Yesterday’s World

Featured

Nespresso’s two new limited edition coffees transport coffee lovers back in time as it pays tribute to the two cities where the world’s first coffee houses were born: Istanbul and Venice. Café Istanbul and Caffé Venezia offers a one-of-a-kind coffee experience, with their exotic flavors allowing you to step through the doors of the vibrant, and spirited coffee houses of the 1500-1700’s, where coffee brought together people of different cultures and races, and inspired big ideas, heated debates, wild theories, and more.

To inspire your imagination and let you take in the beauty of coffee house history, artist Richard Kingston a.k.a Young Rascal created evocative illustrations for the packaging that feature stylish Nespresso drinkers in old-world coffee houses. “I was really inspired by the idea of taking a typical coffee lover from today, complete with headphones, and placing them into a scene from the past,” explained the England-based graphic artist. “Being a lover of history, this appealed to me immensely. The coffee houses of Venice and Istanbul were the hubs of society and a real melting pot. Placing our modern-day coffee drinkers with the citizens of that time, made me think: would they fit in? Of course, they would! Their clothing would differ, but the age-old art of conversation and laughter would remain. Something I hope I’ve managed to convey in these pictures,” he went on.

Apart from this illustration, Nespresso’s latest limited edition variations put together elements and patterns that allows you to fully immerse in Istanbul’s and Venice’s old world charm. Café Istanbul takes inspiration from the classic Turkish lamps, and the light they project onto the surrounding walls. It evokes the element of grandeur, using a blue colour palette and a tiles motif.

Caffé Venezia, on the other hand, takes its cue from damask walls and exquisite patterns found in Venetian masks. The packaging also features a floral motif in red and gold, maintaining the air of elegance and style that is innately Venetian.
