MANILA, Philippines—Alt-indie pop artist rienne recently released the official lyric video for their bittersweet single “honey.” Made with self-drawn and directed animation, the lyric video tells a captivating story of hope, hesitation, and vulnerability.

“Honey”, a song that conveys rienne’s surreal experience of meeting and falling for a girl at a party, immortalized the emotions that came with the beginnings of a special connection. Its youthful tone is reflected in the lyric video–wherein a cartoon version of rienne walks down the street with a bouquet of flowers in their hand and a smile on their face.

With music that feels like driving with the windows down, a message about hidden feelings, and an adorable visual, the lyric video further builds one’s excitement about finding out what might have happened between rienne and their perfect stranger. “When the sun came up, she was still as beautiful as I remembered. We said our goodbyes and I just admired her from a distance. For me, it’s better than having an intimate thing with someone you probably won’t ever see again.”, shared rienne. Both the artist and their audience can only imagine where the relationship could have been headed.

rienne released a comic (also drawn by them!) along with the “honey” lyric video, showing the events that led to their dreamlike night out. Read “honey: the comics” by rienne here.
