With director Kim Seong-hun at the helm, written by Kim Eun-hee, Kingdom is set in the Joseon dynasty–a time of poverty and corruption. The show’s official synopsis reads, “A mysterious rumor of the king’s death spreads, as does a strange plague that renders the infected immune to death and hungry for flesh.”

Beyond the traditional Korean garb, its gorgeous cinematography and its ever-grand production, it is the many layers of Kingdom’s rich storyline that hooked viewers globally–think Game of Thrones meets Train to Busan-slash-Walking Dead. You don’t need to ask why it has become such a hit as it has meticulously, and intelligently woven stories of political turmoil, greed, deceit, not to mention a horde of the undead making it all the more convoluted.

In fact, the epic drama was well on its way to success even before it was launched in the popular platform that a second season has been confirmed. Talk about confidence.

While no official statements has been released by Netflix or the South Korean production team behind the series about the specific date of its return for its second season, nor which cliffhangers would be answered in its second serving, several fans referred to unverified sources saying that it is bound for release by the end of 2019 or early 2020. Of course, all we could do is wait for what’s to come.
