Taylor Swift and BLACKPINK Take Center Stage in Nominations for 2023 MTV Video Music Awards

MANILA, Philippines—MTV has unveiled the highly-anticipated nominations for the 2023 “VMAs,” recognizing artists whose impactful contributions over the past year have reshaped the music landscape and sparked global discussions.

Leading the nominations is Taylor Swift (8), aiming for another “Video of the Year” win after her record-breaking victory last year, making her the sole artist to secure this title thrice. Trailing closely are SZA (6), Doja Cat, Kim Petras, Miley Cyrus, Nicki Minaj, Olivia Rodrigo, and Sam Smith (5 each), along with BLACKPINK, Diddy, and Shakira (4 each).

This year’s nominations feature a record-breaking number of debut “VMAs” nominees (35 in total), including Kim Petras (5), Metro Boomin, and Rema (3 each), Ayra Starr, GloRilla, Ice Spice, Peso Pluma, Reneé Rapp, and Yung Miami (2 each). Newcomers also include Aespa, boygenius, Burna Boy, Davido, Eslabon Armado, FLETCHER, FIFTY FIFTY, JVKE, Lauren Spencer Smith, Musa Keys, PinkPantheress, Saucy Santana, Stephen Sanchez, Toosii, and more.

Starting now, fans can cast their votes in 15 gender-neutral categories, including the newly introduced “Best Afrobeats” category, as well as the coveted “Video of the Year” and “Artist of the Year” categories, by visiting vote.mtv.com until Friday, September 1st. Voting for “Best New Artist” will continue until the show airs on Tuesday, September 12th. Nominations for social categories such as “Group of the Year” and “Song of Summer” will be disclosed at a later date.

The 2023 “VMAs” will return to honor music’s brightest stars on Tuesday, September 12th, at the iconic Prudential Center in New Jersey. The event promises headline-worthy surprises, exclusive performances, and a vibrant audience.
