Events & Festivals

JAPAN—BMSG, a pioneering force in Japan’s music industry, recently wrapped up its two-weekend music extravaganza, BMSG FES’23, in Tokyo and Osaka, commemorating its third anniversary with the launch of two new songs by BMSG ALLSTARS, a follow-up to the success of BMSG FES’22. This year’s festival, held in Japan’s largest cities, Tokyo and Osaka, introduced a fresh concept and marked a significant milestone in BMSG’s journey. The good news is that BMSG has announced plans to stream the full festival recording online for fans worldwide, expanding its reach beyond Japan’s borders.

The Sun from the EAST” and “The Moon in the WEST

In a celebration of the multifaceted talent within the BMSG family, BMSG FES’23 introduced not one but two new songs on September 18, 2023, continuing the tradition set by “New Chapter,” a collaborative effort by BMSG CEO and rapper SKY-HI and Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai.

“The Sun from the EAST,” featuring 11 artists from BMSG EAST including SKY-HI, Novel Core, Aile The Shota, SOTA (BE:FIRST), JUNON (BE:FIRST), LEO (BE:FIRST), TAKUTO (MAZZEL), HAYATO (MAZZEL), along with BMSG artist trainees RUI, TAIKI, and KANON, showcases their individual skills and personalities through a dynamic blend of dance and hip-hop. The track boasts resounding horn sections and playful mic-relaying, reminiscent of the early 2000s East Coast hip-hop scene.

On the other hand, “The Moon in the WEST,” presented by BMSG WEST, features MANATO (BE:FIRST), SHUNTO (BE:FIRST), RYUHEI (BE:FIRST), RYOKI (BE:FIRST), KAIRYU (MAZZEL), NAOYA (MAZZEL), RAN (MAZZEL), SEITO (MAZZEL), RYUKI (MAZZEL), EIKI (MAZZEL), edhiii boi, and REIKO. Ryosuke “Dr.R” Sakai crafts a meticulously arranged track characterized by repetitive hard drum beats and captivating piano riffs. The coolness exuded by these 12 artists pays homage to the early 2000s West Coast hip-hop scene.

These two songs not only celebrate the diverse talents within the BMSG community but also pay homage to the rich history of hip-hop, drawing inspiration from iconic East and West Coast styles.

BMSG FES’23 featured remarkable collaborative performances, including ‘YOLO’ by Team C, a reunion from ‘THE FIRST’ auditions program, ‘MF’ by Novel Core, SHUNTO (BE:FIRST), and RYOKI (BE:FIRST), and a nostalgic ‘One More Day Remix’ featuring BMSG’s original four artist trainees, creating an unforgettable celebration of music and talent.
