A Two-Decade-Old Material Gets Revisited with the Gen Z Lens in a Game of ‘Twenty Questions’

Stage & Performing Arts

MANILA, Philippines—In celebration of its twentieth anniversary, Juan Ekis’ Palanca Award-winning play gets a modern treatment by Theatre Titas in the latest production of “Twenty Questions”.

Originally written in 2003, the play finds college friends Jigs and Yumi locked in a hotel room for 24 hours as part of an annual barkada tradition. In an attempt to pass time, the two goes head on in a game of twenty questions, which forces them to open up to each other and talk about their views on love, life, and sex.

Directed by Cheese Mendez, “Twenty Questions” puts together Diego Aranda (“Quest for the Adarna”, “Joseph the Dreamer”, “Antonio & Perfecto”) as Jigs, and introduces Isabelle Prado in her professional theatrical debut as Yumi.

This new interpretation explores notions of relationships written two decades ago and how it might resonate with a younger audience with a more modern point of view.

“I’m looking forward to this version of the play, directed by a dear friend, and GenZfied for today’s audiences. Only one way to find out if this game is still worth playing or if it can still win hearts. Come, watch with me, let’s fall in love again,” Juan Ekis shares.
