RuPaul’s Drag Race creator RuPaul Charles answers burning question on walking the Met Gala red carpet in a suit and not in drag.

In the midst of the global hype of all the glamorous A-listers who walked the red carpet of the ever-fabulous Met Gala, many are “disappointed” to actually see the Queen mother of all Drag Queens known to men, RuPaul Charles, when he walked and posed for the cameras dressed in a suit.

The Zaldy-designed pink sequined suit may be an adherence to this year’s theme of “Camp” but everybody–and we say everybody, including us–would’ve prayed hard to see the biggest and most influential drag mother in the world walk in his polished, otherworldly drag.

In multiple guestings for his upcoming daytime talk show, the 58-year-old media mogul addressed everyone’s burning question and several reasons behind it, the biggest one being, “Drag hurts!”

In a sit-down interview with pal, Andy Cohen, joined by Angelica Houston, the host and creator of the long-runningRuPaul’s Drag Race answered the question thrown in by a viewer. Charles matter-of-factly responded, “I thought about getting up in drag, but then I thought, every man is gonna dress as Divine from the John Waters films, and I thought, well, I don’t want to be in drag where everyone else is in drag.” He later on realized that only two graduates of the show, Aquaria and Violet Chachki would turn up the red carpet in drag. Even with this, Charles highlighted that, he can be “in drag, not in drag.”

He then interjected, “If I were in drag, I would be so mean to everyone–because it hurts! Drag hurts! I am not getting paid and then we sit in these very small Bar Mitzvah chairs, and you know, I’d be angry.”

Mother Ru, to many, added that for him, the best camp look of the night was the fringed outfit Celine Dion fashioned on the red carpet, while laughingly noted that many actually misinterpreted the whole theme. The pop culture icon also noted he DJ-ed by the end of the night.

While Ru appeared on the red carpet of the most fabulous party of the world in a zebra suit and not the goddessy drag we know he can turn out, we know he served it well! So, we rest our case!
