Editor’s Note: A Sense of Normalcy in Times of Uncertainty and Anxiety

Reel

Rank Magazine statement on releasing timely, informative, and substantial content in the time of a pandemic.

In the past few days, Rank Magazine has refrained from posting and publishing scheduled releases that appear to be out of touch of the reality of the recent order of things and are “insensitive” to the present situation of the country and of the world. If you are a partner agency, institution, brand, or a follower of our publication, you would know that our thrust is focused on hosting the flow of informational and recreational reads and visual content, designed with the aim of creating discourse on local and global entertainment, arts and design, style, culture, and influence. In a time when we feel there’s a bigger need for an information drive on the COVID-19 pandemic more than anything else, for a time, we felt it “distasteful” to push prepared assets that do not contribute to this cause, in any way.

However, following the release of our Mastermind Issue early this month, and eventually putting a halt on promoting other scheduled assets set for release days before and after the declaration of the enhanced community quarantine on the whole of Luzon,we have seen a spike on engagement and interest on postings we have already released, particularly of our cover subject, Mimiyuuuh.

We analyze this as a ringing indication that in trying times like this, people seek to find content that may, in any way, alleviate that sense of uncertainty, panic and fear. And so we are posting this. We do not wish to downplay and make light of the gravity of the situation all of us are currently facing, but we feel that if there’s something we can do in times like this, using means and channels we already have, we will exhaust that option when and how ever way we can.

While we will still limit the publishing of other materials you may be used to seeing in this channel, we will use this platform to provide substantial, informative, and “entertaining” content, including some that we do not normally host on our site and our social media channels, as most of us are compelled to stay at home–a simple contribution from a small institution like us. We also take this as an opportune time for our platform to grow and find ways to be of help to the community with avenues and network that we have built in the short span of time we have been committed to producing content of, by, and for the people.

And so, to readers of Rank Magazine, when you can, stay at home. Keep yourselves productive and informed only by trusting through credible sources. And when you need to go out, for work or for any other essential reasons, practice social distancing and good hygiene. But most of all, continue to be compassionate towards others who may not be as lucky and fortunate as you, who have the means to read and watch our content through your data plans and home wireless connections. Be prepared and stay safe as we all take steps towards safety. See you all, soon!
