“It was a reminder of how much can change in a short period of time,” he said, “but at the same time, there were so many changes too.”

For this trip, Richard stepped outside of his normal destinations and explored new attractions that Hong Kong had built in recent years.

Despite his predetermined timeframe, he took advantage of the museum’s first foreign artist show, Yayoi Kusama (1945 to now). He observed hundreds of her pieces spanning five decades of Kusama’s art and life. Richard characterizes this venue, which is adorned with hundreds of carefully arranged artifacts, as a sanctuary for folks who enjoy taking Instagram-worthy images.

The K11 MUSEA

“K11 MUSEA is also something you should not miss,” he shared. This commercial complex also serves as an art museum, for those who are unaware. “I was told by our tour guide that some of the art installations were from the owner’s own personal collection too,” he furthers.

His particular favorite place is the roof garden, which has a wonderful view of Hong Kong’s Bay. With several high-end retail outlets and designer labels, K11 skillfully merges art and commerce.

Richard’s visit to Hong Kong was made even more memorable by his first visit to Hong Kong Disneyland. “Disneyland opened in 2005, and yet it’s my first time! I even went on Mickey Mouse’s birthday! I was completely blown away by the magical and immersive atmosphere of the park. From the moment I walked through the gates and down Main Street, I felt transported to a world of wonder and brought back a sense of nostalgia.”
