Just In: The 2019 Oscars Nominations are Here

Featured

It’s official! We have definitely reached the tail-end of the Oscars race as the nominees for this year’s Academy Awards have been officially announced. As of this morning, Oscar-nominated actor and screenwriter Kumail Nanjiani and Tracee Ellis Ross were tasked to present this year’s nominations list in Los Angeles for a highly-anticipated, buzzed about show slated on February 24. Interestingly, the awarding ceremony, to this date, remains host-less after the much controversial Kevin Hart bowing out as the official master of ceremony–a first in the coveted awards’ decades-long history.

Strong contenders did make it in the list. But, as is to be expected in every announcement, there were a number of unexpected snubs including Bradley Cooper for the Best Director nod, Timothee Chalamet for Best Supporting Actor, and Emily Blunt for Best Actress. Alfonso Cuaron’s Roma and Yorgos Lanthimos’ The Favourite led this year’s films to beat, scoring ten nominations each. They were followed by A Star is Born and Vice snagging eight nods each and Black Panther pocketing seven, including the Best Picture nod, serving as a historic first for Marvel and their long line of superhero films.
