Onitsuka Tiger Unveil its Autumn Winter 2023 Collection Highlighting Japanese Culture

Fashion & Style

MILAN, Italy—The Japanese Fashion Brand Onitsuka Tiger Continues to present a contemporary collection that combines fashion with sports, and heritage with innovation.

Onitsuka Tiger has recently unveiled its Autumn Winter 2023 Collection at the Milan Fashion week, under the direction of its creative director Andrea Pompilio, the brand has also participated in Milan Fashion Week Since debuting in Autumn Winter 2021.

The theme of this years collection is “Urban Layering” as dressing in layers is a central part of Japanese culture. The act of wearing a Kimono is part of ritual performed by superimposing garments of different weight, from the very light underwear to the actual Kimono, which are then closed by a wide belt. It is a tradition for Autumn Winter 2023, matched with oversized and flowing tailoring, another fashion excellence from Japan.

Andrea Pompilio, the creative director distilled the essence of this Japanese tradition by filtering it through Onitsuka Tiger’s Sporty DNA. The results mark an important step for the brand which presents a collection while maintaining its active spirit, is more focused on urban aesthetics. Thus, there are oversized coats made of needle-punched crafted faux fur, tailored coats made of cozy melton having see through effect with visible padding detail on the back and adored with large knitted martingales. Crisp melton is used for oversized three-button jackets and coats.

The mega anoraks are the special item for the show, with its eye-catching volume. The collaboration with Zanter, famous for producing the first domestic down-filled outwear as a pioneer of down wear in Japan, has been realized. Since 1956, Zanter has supplied down wear to Antarctic Expedition and various exploration teams for more than 60 years. The down used for fillings is a high-quality virgin down, and the down-proof processing is applied to prevent the feathers from poking out of the fabric, making Zanter a Japanese brand that offers authentic products. These items can also be worn on the top of each other to make the silhouette voluminous but less bulky.   The look is completed by layering of the bottoms. Baggy trousers made of nylon and melton, and quilted chiffon shorts with see-though padding are layered over precious boxer shorts.

In contrast there are close-fitting, almost downhill suits. On the top of that, instead of French terry hoodies, giant turtle necks made of mohair-touch knit lightweight quilted chiffon shorts with see-though padding, and a ribbed tight silhouette tank tops, and more combined. Sash belts and drawstrings designed to the waist of georgette and chiffon dresses to emphasize femininity, and both short and long lengths have flowing silhouettes.

The palette is minimal starting of with signature black to which shades of gray, beige, flashes of orange and pumpkin are added. Even the footwear is designed for urban city style: ankle and below the knee leather boots, elegant but light, and the trainers that evolve into outdoor style shoes hybridized by partially hollowed shoes.

They branded the new Onitsuka Tiger logo with bold lettering with the brands signature colors, yellow and black.
