adidas Continues Partnership with Filipino Artists in Exclusive New City Shop ‘Manila Hoops’ Collection

Art & Creativity

MANILA, Philippines—Trailing the success of collaborations with established, game-changing Filipino artists, Quiccs and Egg Fiasco, adidas Philippines zooms in on young illustrator and muralist Jappy Agoncillo with the release of the new City Shop “Manila Hoops” tee collection.

The budding homegrown talent is known for his vibrant murals and digital designs. Through his collaboration with adidas, his art departs off the walls of the streets and to apparel through this new colorful and youthful collection.

In an exclusive release for the adidas Brand Center City Shop, the “Manila Hoops” Collection comes in two designs; one for men and the other for women. The men’s design features a basketball player on the move, while balancing a cup of taho on his head. This is available in black, dark blue, and red colorways. The women’s design features the diverse women of Manila and is available in white and black colorways.

Drawing inspiration from Filipinos’ love for basketball and diverse street culture, both shirt designs bring to life the unparalleled Pinoy street life with references to signature Filipino street food such as taho, isaw, betamax, and kwek-kwek. Making the shirt more uniquely Filipin are key landmarks seen in the design such as the Manila City Skyline, iconic City Hall, and Roxas Boulevard.

“adidas is a classic household brand that continues its legacy of sharing and creating stories that inspire and make an impact. It’s a great honor to be recognized by the brand through this collaboration that shares not only my story, but also the story of Manila’s unique culture. Just like how adidas as a brand is a timeless classic, I also wanted to create a design that will stand the test of time; able to connect with Filipinos regardless of time or generation,” shared Agoncillo.

“As a brand that is built on creativity and collaboration, we at adidas, continuously look for opportunities to work with talented local creators like Jappy. Because we also recognize the impact and importance of basketball in our culture, the City Shop “Manila Hoops” collection is our way of paying homage to the sport loved by our nation, while also showing off the elements of our street culture that are all uniquely Filipino,” adidas Philippines’ Brand Communications & Sports Marketing Manager JD Cortez added.

Retailing for Php 1,550, the adidas City Shop x Jappy Agoncillo “Manila Hoops” Collection is exclusively available in adidas Brand Center Glorietta.
