Art & Creativity

MANILA, Philippines—Designed to bring the public discussion on the artistic and cultural creations of the well-known visual artist into the center stage, The CCP Visual Arts and Museum Division (VAMD) presents the “Teodora Alonso Reading Club: A Discussion on the Work of Imelda Cajipe Endaya,” on November 26 (Saturday), 3pm, at the Bulwagang Juan Luna (CCP Main Gallery).

The event bears the title of a piece of art by Cajipe Endaya titled “The Teodora Alonso Reading Club,” which is featured in her current retrospective exhibition at the CCP.  The painting arrays a palimpsest of an archival image of Teodora Alonso with her daughters and granddaughters wielding books that contend with the friarocracy.

While artist Brenda Fajardo and scholar Neferti Tadiar will screen pre-recorded movies, critic Eileen Legaspi Ramirez and artist Judith Adam will take part in the discussion through zoom. Imelda Cajipe Endaya, a visual artist, will be there as well to openly discuss her thoughts and observations. Professor Sofia Guillermo will be in responsibility of moderating the discourse.

Anthology “In Certain Seasons Mothers Write in the Time of COVID,” whose book cover depicts Cajipe Endaya’s artwork “Salinlahi’y Iligtas,” and which was published by the CCP Intertextual Division and Philippine PEN, will be turned over as the event’s last activity.

The event, which will be live streamed on the Facebook pages of the CCP, CCP VAMD, and CCP Intertextual Division, will undoubtedly be embraced by all since it is open to the public and students are urged to take an active part.
