Eight Filipino Designers Lead the Charge in Fashioning Creativity for Charity

MANILA, Philippines — In its continuing aim not just to celebrate Filipino talent and creativity but to use its power to push for the common good, Fashion Designers Alliance (FaDAL), in 2020, has launched its Changing the Fashion Narrative campaign to coincide with the announcement of its newest members.

The BANIG Campaign was launched in September of last year, in collaboration with Niccolo Cosme, who was behind the lens of a specially-mounted headshot project. FaDAL’s Levenson Rodriguez, at the inception of the campaign, shared in a statement, “We are living in extraordinary times. For the past months, I’ve [ideated] on how to help restart the pulse of the Philippine fashion industry in my own little way or through FaDAL’s collective creative efforts.”

He added, “Moving forward, given our situation, I’ve decided to change the alliance’s thrust from ‘discovery’ of up-and-coming designers, to ‘thrive and to inspire’ with more seasoned designers.”

With the launch of the campaign, FaDAL has sent six prepaid WiFi modems to the Sulodnon children in Panay, Visayas, preloaded with two-month unlimited surfing. The initiative continues as fundraising efforts are put to the fore in hopes of providing subscription to Internet connection for a whole year.

Moving forward with the campaign, the concept of building initiatives for charity through creativity, continues with “ARTMask”. The auction is set to feature ARTMasks specially crafted by eight Filipino fashion designers. All proceeds are said to go to the participating designers’ choice of charity or foundation.

Joining Rodriguez in presenting creative interpretations of one of today’s most basic necessity amid the raging pandemic are Creative Movers Estien Quijano, Russell Villafuerte, Roel Rosal, Julius Tarog, Louis Claparols, Tipay Caintic, and Ehrran Montoya.

All designer ARTMasks are available for scheduled physical viewing made possible with a partnership with lifestyle and creative space, Kondwi in Makati. Themes of pieces on display are inspired by countries deeply impacted by the pandemic from March 5 – 12, 2021, while a spotlight on Philippine festivals will be featured by masks available for viewing from May 7 – 14, 2021. Auctioning of the pieces will then be done virtually.
