Here’s What P-Pop Royalty SB19 Would Look Like If they Make it to the BBMA’s Stage, Decked in Chynna Mamawal Designs

Art & Creativity

MANILA, Philippines — The indomitable five-piece P-Pop group, Sound Break 19, more popularly known as SB19, has aptly broken through the barriers of music as the boys become the first Filipino artists to ever be nominated for a Billboard Music Award. Announced by the internationally-known social media icon Bretman Rock himself, the group was nominated to be included in the fan-voted Top Social Artist Category, competing alongside music giants such as BTS and Ariana Grande

Celebrating this momentous victory, renowned fashion designer Chynna Mamawal has been graciously asked to design the group’s ensemble for the historic event. Producing original and custom-made creations, each design has been carefully crafted to cater to the personalities of each member of SB19, as well as solidifying the band’s image as an unbreakable unit.

For their ensemble to the BBMAs ‘21, the idea was formulated as a homage to their emblem colors, with their trademark blue representing the band’s loyalty and trust towards their community and country. The look and feel being a partnership between SB19 and Chynna Mamawal’s aesthetics, emphasizing each of the member’s individuality while embedding it with a sense of formality. Each member is connected through a matching black satin bow-tie, and adorned with a pin of the Philippine flag.

Pablo is envisioned to wear a midnight blue velvet suit jacket, with a wide black satin peak lapel, black wool trousers, and black leather loafers. This outfit was chosen for its classic silhouette. Reliable, firm, and romantic, his sleek silhouette provides a foundation for the entire ensemble.

Josh is reimagined to wear a midnight blue and metallic white brocade print blazer with a shawl collar lapel, white formal shirt, trousers complete with white piping details, and black gamuza leather loafers. This outfit is made to be as boisterous and outgoing as Josh is, with its unapologetically bold print.

Justin is reimagined to wear a midnight blue velvet double-breasted suit jacket with a wide peak lapel, accompanied by a white formal shirt with satin black buttons, white wool cropped-ankle trousers, and black leather tassel loafers. The jacket is accessorized with fabric incarnations of the sampaguita, the Philippine national flower. Being the “visual” and the youngest member of the group, his design was influenced by his bright and elegant nature.

Embodying that same ideal of representing the Philippines, utilizing a local designer’s designs once more is an act of love and pride towards their native country. Both SB19 and Chynna Mamawal are taking monumental steps in etching Filipino talent in history, and showing the world what true-blooded Filipinos are truly capable of.

More recently, Mamawal and the quintet have joined forces to meld music and fashion in coming up with a groundbreaking collaboration that drove fans of the group to troop online in support of the iconic marriage of these different art forms.
