MANILA, Philippines—In a recent announcement, the Cultural Center of the Philippines and the Cinemalaya Foundation, Inc. shared that the previously planned online screenings of the 2022 Cinemalaya Philippine Independent Film Festival is not pushing through.
The decision comes from an internal consultation with the filmmakers who have been preparing and looking forward to competing in various international film festivals.
As shared earlier in the year, the 18th edition of the country’s largest film festival would have extended its 2022 run to the online space this October. According to the Cinemalaya organizing committee, filmmakers will lose their chance to compete in international festivals when films are shown online outside of the Cinemalaya festival proper.
