This Beauty Campaign Gets Real about the #PandemicEffect and Its Impact on Self-Care

Brand & Campaigns

MANILA, Philippines — There’s no denying the fact that the year 2020 has been marked as the darkest time in modern history, what with an unprecedented stop caused by an unseen enemy. You’re not alone in thinking that the pandemic has drastically changed all of our lives and one of the most outward indication of its impact is on its effect on us physically. After all, the past year has not been kind to all of us.

Being in lockdown gave us less reasons to care about how we look, since we’re all stuck at home. Much of our time is also spent hearing stressful news. And we absorb this negative energy that manifests itself in our appearance, without us even realizing it. (That is, until we look in the mirror.)

In a recent campaign with acclaimed ideas agency, GIGIL at the helm, the Belo Medical Group, reminds us that it’s here to take care of us—the best way the brand knows it can, even in the most “superficial” of ways.

The video starts off with a beautiful woman, tuning in to watch the latest news on TV. Much like the rest of us, to her dismay, the bombardment of a series of stress-inducing headlines has taken its toll on herself. And slowly, the anxiety gets to her, as seen in the many, “unwelcome” changes in her appearance.

While the pandemic has affected us in more ways than what the campaign has shown, safe to say, in various levels, this is something we all experienced and the same went with the number of celebrities who opened up about their struggles with the hashtag #PandemicEffect:

Claudia Barretto

Francine Diaz

Xandra Rocha-Araneta

Saab Magalona

Gabbi Garcia

The Internet, of course, has been inspired to open up about the changes they experienced because of the stresses and harshness of the pandemic:

While the campaign focuses on beauty and appearances as a point of dialogue on the way the pandemic has made an impact on all of our lives, Belo Medical Group highlights the value of self-care amid these trying times. As the campaign notes, “Because tough times call for beautiful measures.”
